All Newport Beach CERT volunteers are invited to participate in the fifteenth annual "Celebrate Balboa Island Day Parade" on Sunday, June 7th, 2009 at 11:00 AM.
The CERT and RACES programs will have a joint entry, along with the Fire Department, in this year's parade to help spread the word about the CERT program.
Parade Staging Area- You will need to be at the parade staging area, next to Pavilions Market on Bayside Drive (west of Jamboree), by 10 AM on Sunday, June 7th. You will not be able to park at the Pavilions and parking in the immediate area is exremely limited. Please be preared to park far away in adjoing neighborhoods in Irvine Terrace and Corona del Mar and to walk to the Pavilions. Car pooling and biking are encouraged.
Parade Route- The parade organizes on Bayside Drive, crosses over Balboa Island Bridge, travels down Marine Avenue and ends at Fire Station #4, (approximately three blocks)
What to Wear- Your CERT green vest, ID lanynard, CERT baseball cap, pants, comfortable walking shoes, helmets, eyewear and other equipment (optional). Bring water and other necessary food items.
CERT Booth- At the end of the parade route, on the corner of Marine Avenue, in front of the fire station, will be a CERT booth. Volunteers will be needed to staff the booth during two shifts and to assist with set-up and clean-up. The two booth shifts at 10:00 AM-Noon and Noon to 2:00 PM.
Duration- The Balboa Island Bridge will be closed from 10:45 AM- 1:00 PM, so do not park on the island. The parade typically runs from 11:00 AM to noon followed by a street fair.
